Tempilaq® Advanced 475°F / 246°C
Liquid temperature indicator — brush on evenly, wide coverage, precise colour-change
Product Description
Tempilaq® Advanced 475°F — Liquid form, applications & standards
Brush onto metal surface before PWHT to confirm uniform temperature across the entire weld zone. Especially useful for rapid multi-point inspection on large pressure vessels. 2oz bottle — compact and easy to carry on site.
After application the solvent evaporates quickly (quick-dry), leaving a thin film on the steel. When the temperature reaches 475°F (246°C), the film changes colour clearly — a visual result recordable by photo for QA/QC records. Thinner (Part #24597) may be used for dilution if needed.
Compare with Tempilstik®
When should Tempilaq® be used instead of a crayon?
Tempilaq® Advanced vs Tempilstik® — Choosing the right tool
- Curved surfaces, small-diameter pipe
- Blind angles, hard to reach by hand
- Wide, uniform surface coverage needed
- Verify uniform heat distribution in PWHT furnace
- Surfaces with ridges, grooves or complex profiles
- Flat, easily accessible surfaces
- Quick spot-check at a specific point
- Outdoor / windy site conditions
- Immediate reading needed, no drying wait
- Multiple temperature levels required simultaneously

Standards and application context
📐 Applicable Standard
ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3 — PWHT stress relief for Cr-Mo steel and pressure vessels.
Cr-Mo steel (P11, P22), pressure vessels, heat-resistant equipment.

Application procedure and reading results
Shake the bottle well. Apply a thin, even coat on clean steel (free of oil and grease). Allow the solvent to evaporate fully (30–60 s depending on conditions). Heat the surface — when it reaches 475°F (246°C) the film changes colour clearly. Photograph before the surface cools. If Tempilaq® thickens from evaporation, use Thinner Part #24597 to restore viscosity.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
❓ Usage
Can Tempilaq® 475°F be used outdoors?
Yes, but avoid strong wind during application so the film dries evenly. In high-ambient-temperature conditions (>40°C / 104°F), the solvent evaporates faster — apply immediately before heating. In high-wind offshore conditions, a Tempilstik® crayon is usually more practical for quick spot-checks.
❓ Storage
How should Tempilaq® be stored?
Seal tightly after every use — the solvent evaporates and thickens Tempilaq® if left open. Store in a cool, ventilated place away from heat and direct sunlight. If too thick, use Thinner Part #24597 to restore original viscosity.
