Tempilstik® 347°F / 175°C
Welding Temperature Indicator Stick
Genuine US-made surface temperature indicator stick. Melts precisely at 347°F (175°C). Accuracy ±1%°F / ±3%°C. Low-alloy steel, API 5L X52–X65, ASTM A333.
Tempilstik® 347°F / 175°C
Surface temperature indicator stick — precise melt point, no calibration needed
Product Description
Tempilstik 347°F — Applications & Standards
Verify preheat and interpass temperature for low-alloy steel and oil & gas pipelines. Controls interpass temperature.
No power source and no periodic calibration required. When the crayon mark melts on the metal surface, the temperature has reached 347°F (175°C) — a clear visual result that can be photographed for QA/QC records right on site.

Standards-based Usage Context
📐 Applicable Standard
AWS D1.1, ASME B31.3, API 1104 — welding standards for oil & gas pipelines and pressure-bearing structures.
Low-alloy steel, API 5L X52–X65, ASTM A333.

Correct field measurement technique
Mark the crayon on the steel surface before heating, at least 75 mm (3 in) away from the weld joint per AWS D1.1 Section 5. When the temperature reaches 347°F the mark melts — the signal that the next step may proceed. Do not measure directly on a surface just heated by an open flame.

Why not use an IR laser thermometer?
IR laser thermometers are affected by emissivity — causing 5–15% error on steel with mill scale, rust or primer. Tempilstik works by a chemical mechanism, independent of surface condition. In outdoor conditions (wind, rain) on O&G sites, Tempilstik gives more reliable results.
